Statement of Purpose
The primary mission of the Superior Association of Woodworkers is:
- To promote and enhance the skills of all woodworkers.
- To maintain the integrity of the craft.
- To provide a network for members.
- To be of service to the community.
Who Are We?
We are a group of amateur, semiprofessional and professional woodworkers who live and work in the vicinity of Thunder Bay, on the shore of Lake Superior, in northwestern Ontario. We formed the Superior Association of Woodworkers as a not-for-profit organization in order to share expertise, tools, and business opportunities. We also want to promote awareness of the benefits and availability of custom woodworking. We meet once a month to learn and pursue the love of woodworking. If you have a similar interest, regardless of your skill level, then you might like to join us.
If you want to join our group or attend one of our meetings, please refer to the Latest News section for current information.

Record Year for Toy Makers for Tots 2009
SAW members have managed to break a record for toys made for the annual Toys for Tots campaign. This year, we submitted 411 toys which is about 150 toys better than any previous year. Well done!
Safety Alert (for certain 5 gallon wet/dry or larger vacuums)
If you use a 5 gallon or larger wet/dry vacuum made by Rigid, Craftsman, Dirt Hound, Workshop, or Dirt Hawg, you are advised to check the serial number of your machine at www.emersontoolcompany.com/bypass to determine if your machine qualifies for a bypass insert. You can find out if your vacuum qualifies by clicking on Qualifying Model and Serial Numbers.
A Bypass Insert, when installed, will reduce the risk of motor damage, overheating, melted plastic, sparks, smoke, and/or fire that may result from improper use of the Vac, including operating the Vac with the float in the raised position. The Bypass Insert will also limit the introduction of certain debris into the blower housing if the Vac is improperly used without a filter when vacuuming dry material.
Toy Makers for Tots Wheels
You can order by filling out the Toymaker Wheel Order Form.doc and either give it to Ray Baker at a SAW meeting or email it to him at rbaker@tbaytel.net.
Lumber
The webmaster received the following email:
I came across your website on the Canadian Woodworking site and thought I would contact you regarding lumber. All my lumber is air dried, grade #1 or better, 5″ to 12″ wide and 6′ to 12′ in length. I do have some boards up to 20″ wide (not sawn through the center of the log).
Prices for my lumber are as follows:
walnut (green), flat sawn red oak, white elm, red elm $1.75 /bdf; 1/4 sawn red oak $2.50/bdf; figured soft maple (spalted and/or wormy) $2.50 bdf; figured hard maple (spalted) $3.00 bdf.
I have an arrangement where I can ship bundles of up to 1000 bdf for $500 or less if the timing is right.
